WELCOME TO THE CROSIER FATHERS: Fr. Ernie will be in the Consortium July 30th-31st for a Mission appeal. In 1920 the Crosiers arrived in the northern region of the Congo in Africa. In 1965 the most tragic, yet faith-filled moment in the history of the mission occurred-23 Crosiers were murdered during the war following independence. The present growth of the Order is viewed by the Crosiers as new life coming out of this sacrifice: “In the Cross is life”. Today, 98 Crosiers live in six houses located in two separate regions. In the Congo’s capital city, where Crosier seminarians continue their priesthood formation in theology, the Crosier Community operates a home for “street kids”-offering hope to young children who otherwise face a life of poverty and despair on the streets. In the eastern part of the Congo, the Crosiers operate a novitiate and Holy Cross College, open to all men and women. They serve about 60,000 people. Crosiers are totally dependant on others for support because the economy does not give any real possibility to earn one’s living. Please be generous! CONSIDER A POLGRIMAGE TO CAREY: You may not be able to journey to the Holy Land, Rome, Fatima, Lourdes or Mexico City, but the Basilica and National Shrine of Our Lady of Consolation is not so far away. Located at 315 Clay St., Carey, Ohio 43316. Experience the serenity and peace of Our Lady’s presence in the Shrine where she had been honored as Consoler of the Afflicted since 1875. Most pilgrims enjoy the celebration of the Mass in the beautiful basilica, make the stations of the cross in the 30-acre Shrine Park, pray the rosary and participate in Eucharistic Adoration and healing prayers while seeking Mary’s intercession and companionship. The Sacrament of Reconciliation, and an extended stay with times of quiet, are also possibilities. www.olcshrine.com email: This e-mail address is being protected from spambots.
