2nd Grade News

Last Week
I apologize if I worried anyone in thinking they did not receive a newsletter last week. I did not send one out.

Christmas Play Details
The Christmas Play will be next Tuesday, Dec. 20th at 7:00pm in the PCC. During the presentation our 2nd grade class will be reciting a poem and singing a song. Each student has selected one line from the poem to learn (3 students will have 2 lines to learn). Students should have brought home a copy of the poem in their yellow folder with the line(s) they are to learn highlighted. There will also be a few simple lines that will introduce our class’s segment. Of all who were interested, I randomly selected two students for these lines. As for the song, we will be singing it altogether, as a class. A copy of the song will also be coming home today. We will be practicing here at school, but please take a little time to practice the poem lines and the song at home also. If you need replacement copies of either the poem or the song, please let me know.

Christmas Play Attire & Props
Our 2nd grade portion of the Christmas Play will not require students to be in any special costume. However, they will be expected to wear a nice outfit (dress, skirt, or dress pants & blouse/dress shirt). Students are not allowed to wear jeans or t-shirts. If nothing else, students may wear their Mass-Day school uniform for the performance. Since we don’t have to worry about costumes, I am asking that each child bring in a Bible to hold during our performance. Please send these in as soon as possible so we can be practicing with them. If you don’t have a Bible you would want your child to use for this, just send me a quick note so I can locate some extras. If you have any questions, please let me know.

Secret Santa
Our class will be visiting Secret Santa tomorrow (Wednesday, Dec. 14th) for students to shop for Christmas gifts for family/friends. It would be very much appreciated by all involved if you could help your child plan out their shopping in advance. Please help them make a list of who they will shop for and about how much they will spend on each person. Please send this list in with their money and make sure your child knows how much money they have with them.

Next Week
Because we will only be in school three days next week, there will not be a spelling test or homework packet assigned for next week. This means your child will not be bringing home a spelling list this Friday. Also, I will send next week’s newsletter home on Mon, Dec. 19th to make sure you get any last minute details about the Christmas Play in plenty of time. So please be on the lookout for it in your child’s yellow folder.

Art Project
This Friday we will be decorating paper cut-out Christmas trees for art. I have informed students that they are welcome to bring in unwanted/extra crafty type items from home to use in decorating their trees (such as beads, pom poms, pieces of tinsel/garland or ribbon, glitter or glitter glue, etc.) Please, please do not go out and buy anything for this. It is completely optional that students bring items in and I will have plenty of decoration items available for students to use. However, I am asking that if students do bring supplies in that they be willing to share with others.
