2^nd Grade News

Snow Days

Just another reminder, if something is due to be turned in (homework packets, Scholastic Book Orders, Book-It calendars, etc.) and school is cancelled for that day, it will be due the next day we are in session. This goes for tests also. If we are cancelled the day we are supposed to have a test, it will be re-scheduled for the day we return.
 

2^nd Grade Mass

We did not get to present the school Mass on Jan. 20^th because of the snow day. At this time I do not know if our class will be assigned an additional Mass to make up for missing last Fri. However, I still want to thank parents and families for taking the time to help prepare students who were supposed to read at Mass.
 

What We’re Learning:

Language Arts: words with r-controlled vowels: er, ir, ur; verbs: identification and tense; structure of a paragraph

Math: adding 1-digit & 2-digit numbers in a workmat

Religion: exploring the Holy Family; receiving the Good News

Science: food chains & food webs

Social Studies: cardinal directions and using a compass rose  

Health: Nutrition (food for fitness)

Please read about this huge fundraiser for St. Rose School: Pot of Gold Potluck!
 

On March 17, 2012 at the St. Rose Parish Community Center after the 6:00pm Mass there will be a Pot of Gold Potluck Party.

There will be games for kids, there will be drinks to buy, people are bringing their famous dishes (it is a potluck), and Cliff Cody will sing at 7:00pm. At 9:00pm there will be one drawing for one prize. The lucky name on the winning ticket will receive $5,000.
 

This fundraiser is for St. Rose Catholic School, almost 100 years strong. We have tried to keep you informed about our efforts to secure the financial future of our Catholic school, and so many of you continue to generously help us. The weekly offertory, tuition and tuition assistance, the Faith in our Future Annual Appeal, the St. Rose Booth at the County Fair, and the St. Rose Festival (June 15 and 16) are all necessary for the future of our school. But our financial reports and Bishop, who has great hope for our school, tell us we need to have one more big fundraiser for the year. This is it!

This Super Raffle can help put us on sturdy ground for the years to come. Please consider buying a few raffle tickets. Each ticket is $20. One person can buy all six for $100. The one drawing is for $5,000, and the winner need not be present. If a 2012-2013 St. Rose student’s name is written on the ticket for the Leprechaun’s Bonus, that student’s family will receive a $500 tuition coupon for the 2012-2013 school year. This is an incentive for our families to sell, sell, sell.

RAFFLE TICKET STUFFING

Volunteer hours will be given to those who are able to help stuff raffle tickets tomorrow, at noon, in the lower level of the PCC. These raffle tickets are for our Super Raffle at the Pot of Gold Potluck. Lots of help is needed, and will be greatly appreciated. Please call the office (342-3043) if there are any questions.

MARKET DAY PICK-UP

Market Day pick-up is scheduled for tonight, Monday January 23^rd, from 6 to 7. Volunteer hours are available from 5 to 6, unloading and sorting items. If you have any questions, please call Chrissy Dold. (342-1572)

There will be no PM busing, tomorrow, Tuesday January 24^th. New Lexington City Schools will be dismissing early.

CAFETERIA EXTRAS

Beginning January 4^th, any extra food item ordered from the cafeteria will be $1.00.

TUITION ASSISTANCE

All applications for tuition assistance must be completed online and submitted electronically by March 15, 2012. The website is www.factstuitionaid.com . Please file early in case additional documentation is requested by FACTS. There is a $25.00 application fee.

CHILDREN’S CHOIR

The next children’s choir is February 27^th at 6 pm.

Yikes!!! Please make sure your tuition is paid on time…..

Please mark your calendars for the great Pot of Gold Party. This family party begins after the 6pm Mass at St. Rose on March 17, St. Patrick’s Day. It’s a potluck, so bring your most famous and delicious dish. There will be lots of games for children – contact Fr. Jim if you would like to help him with the games. Parishioner Cliff Cody will entertain. The drawing for the new St. Rose School Raffle prize called the Pot of Gold which contains $5,000 will be at 9:00pm.
 

“What new raffle?” you may ask. Our Bishop has urged us to add one big fundraiser to our schedule to assure the financial security of our school. This is it! You will be getting your tickets in the mail this week. Tickets are $20 each. If the same person wants to buy six, you can have them for $100. An incentive for our students to sell tickets is called the Leprechaun’s Bonus. If a St. Rose Student for the year 2012-2013 puts their name on the bonus line and that ticket is pulled at the Pot of Gold Party, that student will receive a $500 tuition coupon for their 2012-2013 tuition contract. This bonus is not redeemable for cash. Thanks for your support and may the luck of the Irish be with you! (And with your spirit.)

There will be no PM busing on Tuesday, January 24^th. New Lexington City Schools will have an early dismissal on this day.

Market Day
Market Day order forms are due in the school office by Thursday, January 12^th. Internet orders are due by 11pm on January 18^th. Pick-up is scheduled for Monday, January 23^rd, from 6 to 7.
